Electrical Maintenance Technician – Barnsley

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical Maintenance Technician to join a busy manufacturing site in Barnsley. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Maintenance Engineer / Electrical Maintenance Engineer looking to develop their career within a fast-paced, modern production environment.

Working as part of a dedicated maintenance team, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and fault-finding on a wide range of production machinery and plant equipment. You will play a key role in reducing downtime, improving equipment reliability and ensuring production continues to operate safely and efficiently.

This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys diagnosing faults, solving technical problems and working proactively to keep machinery running.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out electrical maintenance and repairs on production machinery, plant and equipment

  • Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to minimise breakdowns and production downtime

  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults quickly and effectively

  • Fault find on mechanical systems, including gearboxes and associated equipment

  • Work with and understand pneumatic and hydraulic systems and circuits

  • Liaise effectively with on-site contractors and remote service engineers

  • Use a CMMS maintenance system to accurately record maintenance activities, breakdowns and completed work

  • Monitor and maintain appropriate levels of critical engineering spare parts

  • Support continuous improvement and equipment reliability initiatives

  • Provide guidance and mentor apprentices within the maintenance team

  • Work independently and use initiative when responding to breakdowns and technical issues

  • Support the wider engineering team with overtime when required

Requirements

To be considered for this Electrical Maintenance Technician position, you will need:

  • A relevant NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds Level 3 qualification or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Maintenance, Engineering or a related discipline

  • A minimum of 4 years' industrial maintenance experience

  • Previous experience as a Maintenance Engineer, Electrical Maintenance Engineer, Electrical Technician or Engineering Technician

  • Experience working within a manufacturing, production or industrial engineering environment

  • Strong electrical maintenance and fault-finding skills

  • Good understanding of mechanical maintenance and machinery

  • Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics

  • Experience carrying out PPM and reactive maintenance

  • Experience using CMMS / computerised maintenance management systems

  • Ability to diagnose breakdowns efficiently and minimise production downtime

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with contractors and external engineers

  • Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and use your own initiative

  • Flexibility to work overtime when required to support production

Working Hours

Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm

This is a days-based maintenance position, offering a consistent Monday-to-Friday working pattern within an established manufacturing environment.
