Electrical Production Engineer / NPI Engineer
Location: Cannock
Salary: Up to £43k per annum - DOE
Hours: Monday to Thursday 8:00am to 5:15pm Friday 8:00am to 12:00pm
As an Electrical Production Engineer / NPI Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting manufacturing operations by delivering production engineering solutions, ensuring accurate engineering data, and driving projects from concept through to production. Working closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Operations teams, you will be responsible for translating customer requirements into production-ready solutions while ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, cost optimisation, and delivery performance. You will also support apprentices and junior engineers, contributing to the development of engineering capability across the business.
Key Responsibilities of this Electrical Production Engineer / NPI Engineer role:
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) projects from concept through to full production release.
- Develop production-engineered solutions from customer specifications and requirements.
- Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), item cards, routings, and engineering documentation.
- Provide technical support throughout all stages of the manufacturing process.
- Ensure products are designed for manufacture, assembly, and continuous improvement.
- Support electrical and production engineering activities across the business.
- Manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and product revisions.
- Conduct root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives including Kaizen, 5S, waste reduction, and process optimisation.
- Participate in daily SQCDP meetings and support departmental performance targets.
- Collaborate with production, quality, purchasing, and project teams to ensure on-time project delivery.
- Support first article inspections, ISIR activities, and customer acceptance processes.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry regulations, safety standards, and quality systems.
- Assist with engineering capacity planning and project scheduling activities.
- Mentor apprentices and support the development of junior engineering team members.
Skills & Experience Required for this Electrical Production Engineer / NPI Engineer role:
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience within a manufacturing or production engineering environment.
- Proven experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) projects.
- Strong knowledge of electrical and electronic engineering principles.
- Experience working with electrical products, control panels, or electrical assemblies.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and CAD designs.
- Experience creating and maintaining BOMs and engineering documentation.
- Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving capabilities.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Qualifications
Essential
- HNC, HND, NVQ Level 4/5 or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience within a manufacturing environment.
Desirable
- Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Formal Project Management qualification or experience.
- Background in electrical panel design and production engineering.
