A primary school in North London is currently looking to recruit an experienced Part-Time School Business Manager to oversee the day-to-day operational management of the school. This is a key role within the school and requires a dedicated, flexible and highly organised individual who will approach their work with a positive attitude, honesty, confidentiality and integrity.

This is a varied and hands-on role, with a particular focus on managing the school office and administrative functions, overseeing the premises and site team, and ensuring the school environment is safe, well maintained and fit for purpose.

Working closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, the successful candidate will provide effective operational support across the school. This will include line management and coordination of relevant support staff, oversight of the premises and facilities team, health and safety, contractors, maintenance, compliance, catering and other school services.

The role will suit an experienced school operations or business manager who enjoys being visible, approachable and hands-on, and who can ensure that the school runs efficiently and that staff and pupils have a safe, welcoming and well-maintained environment in which to work and learn.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and supporting the day-to-day running of the school office and administrative functions
  • Line managing and coordinating relevant support staff, including the premises/site team
  • Overseeing the day-to-day management and maintenance of the school premises
  • Coordinating contractors, repairs, servicing and maintenance works
  • Ensuring the school meets its health and safety, safeguarding and premises-related responsibilities
  • Monitoring compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures
  • Supporting the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team with operational matters and school development projects
  • Managing relationships with external contractors, suppliers and service providers
  • Supporting the effective delivery of catering, cleaning, security and other site-related services
  • Ensuring appropriate records, procedures and systems are maintained
  • Identifying opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of school operations
  • Responding proactively to issues and ensuring that operational matters are resolved promptly
  • Supporting the school with events, lettings and other activities where required

To apply for this position, you should:

  • Have previous experience in a School Business Manager, School Operations Manager, Office Manager or similar role, preferably within an educational setting
  • Have experience of managing, leading and motivating staff, including supporting professional development and addressing underperformance where necessary
  • Have strong organisational, administrative and operational management skills
  • Have experience of managing premises, facilities, contractors and/or site teams
  • Have a good understanding of health and safety, compliance and relevant legislation within a school or similar environment
  • Have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Have strong IT, systems and administrative skills
  • Be able to manage several priorities and projects simultaneously, using initiative and sound judgement to meet deadlines
  • Be highly organised, practical and solutions-focused, with excellent attention to detail
  • Be able to build positive working relationships with staff, parents, contractors and external agencies
  • Demonstrate a commitment to confidentiality, integrity and the smooth day-to-day running of the school

This is a part-time role and does not carry responsibility for the school's finance function. The focus of the role is on school operations, office management, premises, facilities, compliance and the effective management of support services.
