We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering and building services contractor for an experienced Senior Project Engineer – Mechanical to join their operations team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically biased project engineer with strong building services experience to take technical ownership of mechanical works across complex construction projects. You will provide engineering leadership throughout the full project lifecycle, from design development and procurement through to installation, testing, commissioning and handover.

Working closely with Project Managers, construction teams, design consultants, specialist subcontractors and internal technical teams, you will ensure that mechanical works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with the project specification, statutory requirements and current Building Safety legislation.

• Lead and coordinate mechanical design information, resolving technical queries and ensuring compliance with project specifications.

• Manage mechanical procurement packages, including supplier selection, technical evaluations, submittals and long-lead item planning.

• Review and approve mechanical shop drawings, material submittals, technical submissions and method statements.

• Plan, coordinate and track mechanical engineering and installation activities across multiple work fronts.

• Identify technical, programme and resource risks and implement appropriate mitigation and recovery measures.

• Provide technical leadership and oversight of mechanical installation activities on site, ensuring quality, productivity and compliance.

• Take ownership of mechanical material take-offs and procurement schedules.

• Lead mechanical BIM coordination, including clash detection, resolution and coordination with other disciplines.

• Ensure accurate production and maintenance of as-built information and project records.

• Take responsibility for mechanical health and safety compliance, including the review and approval of RAMS and active site leadership.

• Manage mechanical QA/QC processes, including ITPs, inspections, testing documentation and NCR close-out.

• Lead mechanical testing and commissioning activities, including integrated systems testing, to achieve successful and compliant handover.

• Provide technical and commercial support, including the assessment, substantiation and agreement of variations.

• Work collaboratively with project management, design, commercial and construction teams to ensure successful project delivery.

• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and promote engineering best practice.

We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer with a strong background in building services and complex construction projects. You will be technically capable, commercially aware and confident working in a site-based project environment.

You will ideally have:

• Proven experience in a Senior Project Engineer, Project Engineer, Mechanical Engineer or similar role within the building services/MEP sector.

• Strong knowledge of mechanical building services installation and project delivery.

• Experience working across design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning.

• Good understanding of mechanical specifications, drawings, technical submittals and construction methodologies.

• Experience coordinating with design consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and wider project teams.

• Strong understanding of QA/QC, ITPs, inspections, testing and NCR processes.

• Experience with BIM coordination and clash detection would be advantageous.

• A proactive approach to problem solving, with the ability to develop practical and buildable engineering solutions.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical matters to a range of stakeholders.

• Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple work fronts.

• A commitment to health, safety, quality and compliance.

Essential:

• HNC / HND in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.

• CSCS and/or SMSTS, SSSTS or equivalent site safety qualification.

Desirable:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.

• Revit and/or BIM coordination experience.
