Job Description:

Graduate Application EngineerField-Based South East London & Home Counties

Are you a technically minded engineering graduate looking for a role where you can build technical expertise, develop commercial skills and take ownership early in your career?

We’re working with a growing specialist engineering business operating within the utilities sector and supporting critical infrastructure across the UK.

This is a field-based role, ideal for someone who enjoys being out meeting people, developing professional relationships and applying their technical knowledge in a commercial environment. You’ll receive structured training from the outset, learning the company's products, applications and market before gradually taking ownership of your own region and customer relationships.

The Role

As a Graduate Application Engineer, you’ll spend the majority of your week out in the field, building relationships with consulting engineers and technical professionals across your region.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Visiting consulting engineers regularly across your region, identifying key contacts and building strong, long-term professional relationships.
  • Engaging with consultants at the feasibility and specification stages to influence design decisions early in the project lifecycle.
  • Working with consultants to secure projects and influence specifications where competitors have been considered.
  • Delivering technical presentations and CPD sessions, developing your confidence as a technical presenter.
  • Working closely with the internal technical team to develop proposals, handle technical queries and convert specifications into orders.
  • Developing a thorough understanding of the company's product range and how it applies across a variety of technical applications.
  • Maintaining accurate CRM records, logging customer visits, tracking your pipeline and ensuring opportunities are followed through.
  • Working towards agreed annual targets, balancing relationship-building with measurable commercial progress.

This is a predominantly field-based position, with four days a week spent visiting customers across the region. The role will involve regular travel, occasional overnight stays and periodic visits to the company's head office in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

About You

You don't need previous experience within the utilities sector — full training will be provided.

We're looking for an engineering graduate who is technically curious, commercially minded and enjoys working with people.

You'll ideally have:

  • An engineering degree or equivalent technical qualification.
  • The ability to read and interpret technical schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and relationships.
  • A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel four days a week, including occasional overnight stays.
  • The ability to cover the South East, London and Home Counties.
  • Strong IT skills.
What’s on Offer?
  • Structured onboarding and product training to build your technical knowledge.
  • Coaching and support from experienced technical and commercial colleagues.
  • Genuine autonomy and responsibility within your region from an early stage.
  • The opportunity to work within the utilities sector on critical infrastructure projects.
  • Clear expectations and support to help you succeed.
  • Career progression towards broader commercial or business development responsibilities, depending on your strengths and ambitions.
  • The opportunity to develop a broad range of technical, commercial and relationship-building skills.
  • A field-based role where your own initiative, relationships and results have a direct impact on your success.
Interested?

If you're an engineering graduate who wants to combine technical engineering, field-based customer interaction and commercial development, whilst working within the utilities sector and supporting critical infrastructure, we'd love to hear from you.
