Job Description:
Business Development Manager – Luxury Packaging
Location: Hybrid/field-based
Salary: Circa £60,000 DOE
The Company
An independent creative packaging partner with more than 25 years of experience turning ambitious ideas into high-quality production for luxury brands. The business works across premium retail, beauty, fragrance, fashion, hospitality, motorsport and specialist gifting, combining intelligent design, material knowledge, production expertise and responsible sourcing.
The Role
They are looking for a commercially ambitious Business Development Manager to win new business with luxury and premium brands. This is a pure growth role for a credible, well-connected salesperson who can open doors, create opportunities and turn complex briefs into profitable, long-term partnerships.
You will join a business with an established account management team and strong delivery capability. Your focus will be building the next generation of clients while working closely with colleagues who will support the development and ongoing service of the accounts you secure.
Key Responsibilities
-Create and execute a focused new-business plan aligned with Progress Packaging’s target markets, values and growth ambitions.
-Build and manage a qualified pipeline through prospecting, networking, referrals, events and existing industry relationships.
-Open doors with premium brands, retailers and agencies, engaging decisionmakers across procurement, marketing, brand, packaging and operations.
-Lead discovery meetings, client presentations and proposals, translating commercial and -creative requirements into compelling packaging solutions.
-Develop accurate briefs and specifications for internal colleagues and the supply base, including materials, finishes, construction, sustainability, timescales and budgets.
-Work with estimating, production, sourcing and account management colleagues to ensure opportunities are viable, profitable and deliverable, then lead negotiations through to conversion.
-Maintain accurate CRM records, forecasts, activity plans and pipeline reporting.
Candidate Requirements
-A proven hunter with a strong record of generating and converting new business rather than solely managing established accounts.
-Experience selling to luxury, premium or design-led customers. Packaging experience is valuable but is not essential; relevant backgrounds may include print, paper, displays, branded products or another bespoke manufactured solution.
-Credibility with discerning brands and retailers, ideally within beauty, fragrance, fashion, premium retail, hospitality, motorsport or gifting.
-A consultative approach and the ability to sell on creativity, service, materials, quality and experience rather than price alone.
-Confident presenting to senior stakeholders and able to explain a clear sales strategy, target-account plan and measures of success.
-Commercially astute, organised and comfortable managing pricing, margin, forecasts, long sales cycles and multiple stakeholders.
-Smart, professional and relationship-led, with the resilience to build business from a cold start and the flexibility to travel regularly for client and team meetings.
-Interested in a long-term career with the potential to step into senior commercial leadership.
