Business Development Manager – Offshore Wind

Our client is a global renewable energy company active in a range of energy technologies, including onshore and offshore wind, solar, energy storage and transmission and distribution.

They are currently seeking to hire a Business Development Manager to join their growing Business Development team.

This person will be tasked with securing new contracts within the Offshore market.

The main areas of focus will be Balance of Plant (BoP) Operations & Maintenance (O&M), Offshore Transmission Owners (OFTO) O&M, and Technical Services (consultancy services).

Whilst the role will mainly cover Offshore services, there will be opportunities to be involved in Asset Management and O&M opportunities across all of their key technologies (wind, solar and battery storage).

This is an exciting new role and the successful applicant will be a key member of a team with ambitious growth targets.

 

Location: Glasgow, Kings Langley, Larne, Grimsby or Gateshead offices 

 

Responsibilities

  • Support the Offshore team in delivering a programme of business development activity to meet targets
  • Plan and deliver a programme of business development activity to meet targets
  • Develop and maintain client relationships including identifying and generating opportunities to submit bids
  • Write bids, tenders & proposals and lead assigned opportunities through to contract signature/handover
  • Assist the creation of the cost calculation including developing an appropriate pricing strategy
  • Be responsible for gaining the business' approval prior to preparing and submitting bids
  • Take part in contract negotiations within the agreed business approval levels
  • Accurately record and track opportunities, customer interactions and project data within the CRM system
  • Input into the development of the marketing and business development plans
  • Monitoring industry tender portals and co-ordinating tender responses
  • Help to develop a culture of continuous improvement through the analysis of customer and internal feedback and implementing conclusions in the business strategies and customer account plans; and
  • In addition, the role will also require occasional travel within UK and Europe, and attendance at industry conferences

 

Requirements

 

Knowledge

  • Significant knowledge of the UK offshore wind sector including having a strong contacts base across the industry
  • Understanding of the sales and tendering process typically used for selling services in a B2B environment
  • Knowledge of the principles of key account management
  • Knowledge of key contractual terms in relation to O&M such as performance warranties.

 

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly for leading/participating in virtual teams to develop tenders
  • Strong numerical analysis skills required for developing cost models to for delivering technical services (such as asset management and operations & maintenance) under long term contracts
  • Research and strategic analysis
  • Good organisational skills to meet fast paced timescales on a number of potentially simultaneous tenders and other business development activities; and
  • Strong ability to use Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and CRM systems

 

Experience

  •  Experience in planning and delivering business development activities (with clients and contractors) for selling services in a B2B environment
  • Experience in preparing proposals and tenders
  • Experience of working in the UK offshore renewable energy industry

 

Qualification

A degree in business, renewable energy, or equivalent qualification is desirable, but a proven background in a meaningful business development or commercial activity may be sufficient; and UK driving licence.
