Job Description:
Control / Embedded Software Engineer
Responsible for development of embedded / electronic control systems on a wide array of multi-faceted marine development projects.
Responsibilities will include:
- Control system architecture - definition of the control layout (controllers, communication busses, HMI, hierarchy, component selection)
- Design of software architecture
- Systems Engineering - working with the wider design team to ensure that our hydraulic & electrical component sizing, mechanical design, schematic layout, and software control strategy are joined up and will work effectively as a system
- Analysis & Simulation - Full up-front system and control strategy simulation using Simulink / Simscape
- Use of simulations for SIL and HIL rig development
- Embedded development - Control code development for all parts of the system in C, Simulink or similar auto-coding environments
- Calibration and setup - commissioning and calibration of the system on rigs and test boats
- Testing and development - development of new testing methods, notably SIL & HIL, running sea trials- including planning, execution, analysis & reporting
- Coding standards and good practice - you will be required to assist in continually developing our processes, standards and tools to ensure our software and calibration are robust and reliable
- Partner liaison - Where we work closely with external consultants your role would include working alongside them and managing their workload
We are looking for an experienced, intelligent, professional engineer, with emphasis on the following personal attributes:
- Intelligent and technically sharp with high grade MEng or similar level qualification from a reputable university
Experience:
- Designing and commissioning performance-critical electrical and / or hydraulic control systems in a similar field - e.g. Automotive, Aerospace, or Marine
- Previous experience of HEV control systems - eMotor control, battery management systems and DC-DC convertors is desirable
- Control system software development - ideally both in C and Simulink or equivalent
- Plant model development in a physical modelling tool (Simulink, Dymola, Amesim or equivalent)
- Whole-system understanding: including electrical, hydraulic, control, calibration, and mechanical aspects
- Distributed control systems development
- Vehicle network communications - CAN, LIN, Flexray, NMEA 2000
- Practical Electrical / electronic experience would be useful but is not vital
