A Coal Tip Safety Task Force (CTSTF) has been created to deliver a programme of work to address the issues relating to coal spoil tips, highlighted by the Tylorstown landslide in February 2020.

The purpose of this 2 year FTC is to support the successful delivery of this urgent programme of work commissioned by the Welsh Government to provide assurance that coal spoil tips across Wales are being managed effectively and safely.

One key aspect of this role will be the policy development to introduce a new risk categorisation system for coal tips in Wales and a matrix for the prioritisation of repairs/remediation and removal works.

This work requires a consistent approach to the management of coal tip risk is defined, adopted and implemented. This role will be crucial in ensuring this key objective is achieved.

About you:

We're looking for an experienced professional with a technical background. You should have experience of engaging with multi-disciplinary teams and drafting policy documentation. Experience in engineering, geotechnical assessment, slope and ground stability, operations, senior stakeholder management would also beneficial as well as experience of working with regulators.

We are looking for a strong leader with the ability to influence and deliver change to processes and ways of working to achieve specific strategic outcome in accordance with best practice.

They will have the ability to work with and adapt their style to a variety of internal and external stakeholders. They will also have the ability to communicate at various levels across multiple disciplines within project, operational and technical teams.
