This role based in Indirect Tax will be a key part of this transformation. The team is responsible for delivering strategic and insight-led improvements to the successful operation of VAT as well as delivering key and high-profile policy projects. The team is based in Liverpool. Responsibilities • Contribute to a selection of high-profile and government minister driven policy areas.

• Engage and support a team of policy analysts to deliver common, wide-ranging objectives and strategy.

• Use evidence, analysis and political insight to identify gaps in current policy and strategy and to flesh out emerging proposals.

• Produce well-rounded policy options and share them across the stakeholder base to ensure a holistic, detailed and joined-up approach and clear policy proposals that senior staff and ministers can agree to.

• Underpin your policy work in legislation and good guidance.

• Forge and support networks and connections across HMRC to support governance and collaborative working.

• Work with HM Treasury Policy Partners to ensure parity and support of approach across HMT and HMRC.

• Work actively with corporate partners - lawyers, HR and analysts.

Essential Criteria

You will:

• Have a strong and collaborative approach to engagement and will build networks across the department to facilitate policy and operational changes.

• Use information and insights to design and deliver evidence-based policy.

• Be adept at solving sophisticated problems whilst ensuring decisions are pushed to the right level and are inclusive of all relevant partners.

• Have strong experience in partner leadership – this role will mobilise several parts of HMRC to come together and deliver for businesses, the citizen and the Exchequer.

• Have strong and impactful written and verbal communication skills – this role will require routine briefing of senior leaders, working with Press Office, working with HM Treasury to brief ministers and key senior partners across HMRC.
