Our client, who are a market leading manufacturer, are looking to recruit an experienced Senior Electronics & Firmware Engineer to be based in their Electronics centre in Eastbourne.
The role will require close interaction with engineers and managers from across the company as you explore new technologies and solutions that may offer improvements in efficiency, effectiveness or add value for future NPI projects .
The role will involve the design and development of production quality customer-deliverable electronics, used within a range of product families across the company e.g. vacuum pump and system controllers, vacuum gauges, instrumentation, dashboards, displays and custom interfaces.
Main Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • - Capture and analyse requirements
  • - Generate formal requirements documents
  • - Generate formal design documents
  • - Make recommendations on design approach, techniques and component selection
  • - Complete detailed schematic designs with supporting calculations
  • - Generate test specifications for verification and validation of the finished design
  • - Produce detailed test reports showing traceability from requirements to validation



The chosen individual will have a Bachelor or Master degree in Electronics, Electronics Engineering or related engineering discipline. Preferably a member of a profession institution e.g. MIET and achieved or working towards registration e.g. CEng you will also be able to demonstrate previous experience of designing customer-deliverable electronics.
A good understanding of micro-controller / micro-processor based products as well as analogue and digital circuit techniques is also required.
Other experiences/knowledge include:

  • Knowledge of communications protocols e.g. RS232, RS485, I2C, SPI
  • Knowledge of Fieldbus and networking e.g. CAN, Profibus, Ethernet, Wi-Fi
  • Familiarity with simulation tools e.g. pSpice
  • Familiarity with schematic capture using OrCAD or similar tool
  • Familiarity with FMEA and other techniques to ensure designed-in reliability
  • Working knowledge of C or other high-level languages would be an advantage
  • Good practical and laboratory skills for evaluating / modifying prototypes
  • Experience with compliance testing to international standards i.e. EN61010 and EN61326
  • Experience working with 3rd-party approval agencies e.g. UL, CSA
  • Understanding of product lifecycle and product commercialisation processes



The role is based in Eastbourne but occasional need to travel to other UK sites and, in exceptional situations, to travel to worldwide locations may be required.

Basic salary of up to £44,000 per annum (Depending on suitability)
