Public Health Principal – Drug and Alcohol Strategic Commissioner needed in Shrewsbury, £500 per day PAYE - Reference: RQ1448646
- The Public Health Principal - Drug and Alcohol Strategic Commissioner is a senior manager post, responsible for the strategic commissioning of substance use prevention, treatment and recovery services. The role will also take a lead role in the development and delivery of the Shropshire Substance Use Strategy, the Shropshire Safeguarding Community Partnership’s Tackling Drugs and Alcohol Partnership Group’s Business Plan as well as substance incident management preparedness and response.
- The substance use portfolio is aligned to a number of strategic system plans, including the National Drug Strategy and outcomes framework, Shropshire Plan and the Targeted Operating Model, Health & Wellbeing Board Strategy, NHS STW Integrated Care Strategy and Joint Forward Plan, and the Community Safety Partnership Strategy and Plans.
- The role will act as professional lead and subject matter expert, providing strategic planning, technical and tactical input at appropriate times and recommending appropriate courses of action with regards to risk management and harm reduction.
- The level of this post will require leadership of complex change and transformation programmes, with complex relationships management and partnership working across a range of organisations and stakeholders across multiple boundaries, including people with lived experience and carers. The post holder will also provide professional leadership and substantial county wide, cross agency advice to Senior Leaders, Councillors and Executive and Non-Executives Directors and to senior clinicians and partners as required.
- The post holder will be required to keep up to date with relevant legislation, policy, procedure, and development relating to the area of work and be able to articulate and brief partners, senior managers, elected members, and wider stakeholders.
- The postholder is expected to develop effective whole system working and relationships with both internal and external partners and wider stakeholders, to meet programme milestones, and monitor and review effectiveness of programme outcomes.
- The post holder will be expected to work in a flexible, agile manner, responsive to business needs and working across public health programmes as delivery needs requires.
- The post holder will be responsible to a Consultant in Public Health who is in turn responsible for the post holder’s health and safety, training, and development.
- The nature of the role will however involve cross-working with senior personnel within and external.
- The postholder will have access to ongoing supervision and support to further develop their skills and experience within the role.
