Job Description:
MPI requires a Temporary Senior HR Adviser, for our client based in Birmingham
Rate: £20 to 22 per hour
Start date: 14.04.2025
Duration: 06.06.2025
Hybrid: 2 days in office (Wednesday and Thursday)
Interview: TBC
The candidate must demonstrate:
- Managing high volumes of complex ER Cases – Disciplinary / Grievance / Long-term sickness & ill-health capability / complex underlying health conditions / Performance Management, and often several of these issues in one case.
- Experience in managing cases that resulted in dismissal
- Experience of cases where there are one or more protected characteristics involved
- Have worked in environments that are heavily unionised, and have experience of dealing with Union officials
- Experience of tribunals
- Ideally someone who has experience in delivering the service over the phone (this can sometimes be a difficult transition for those who have been purely site based and working face to face with managers / HR etc).
- This may also suit someone with a legal background in Employment Law – who is used to dealing with large businesses, and the above types of issues.
Key Skills
- To provide requests/query resolution service to workforce, at all levels, following clearly defined processes, in line with defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- To problem solve complex/escalated queries and issues where requested, offering resolution
- To understand and gain insight into customer requirements through exploring issues, reviewing data and seeking feedback
- To support the timely and efficient delivery of planned ‘one-off’ and ongoing people programmes and projects
- Able to use and maintain systems in line with data protection principles
- To produce analysis and recommendations through data from relevant systems in order to answer queries; combining data with personal experience to develop insight
- To interpret complex data sets (including themes emerging from HR transaction services) to make recommendations on future improvements
- To develop business cases for HR solutions with appropriate costings
- To provide answers assuredly based on data and understanding of policy and process
- To contribute to a culture of service excellence and support continuous improvement by bringing insights into the organisation to identify opportunities, risks and priorities
- To understand significant issues currently affecting the organisation, including external factors (e.g., legal, financial, market factors)
- To work, where required, to support projects; working as part of a team across the Shared Service centre and HR organisation
Essential
- Up-to-date best practice and thought leadership in HR/specialist area
- Holds the Certificate in HR Practice Level 3. equivalent qualification or Associate member of the CIPD
- Relevant law for own role (or where to access legal information if required)
- Analyses information rapidly and is able to make informed judgments and provide advice on the best option to progress in line with established process
- Uses standard procedures and common sense to solve problems and coaches others in the standard processes within specialism; applies own judgement and criteria to adapt previous recommendations
- Is motivated to achieve the right result despite complex internal/external circumstances
- Is highly credible and builds relationships with key stakeholders
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy; ensures facts are correct, complete and consistent
- Self-assured in the use of data and data analytical skills
- Is able to assuredly challenge the organisation and/or seek support from HR leaders to address wider issues
- Considers issues or opportunities from a number of angles, based on experience, intuition and knowledge. Understands how to handle, resolve and escalate enquiries; passes on information promptly
- Understands how to work in a team to deliver effective services

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal; self-assured in dealing with the full range of business users, via multiple communication channels
