About the Role

As an Automation Engineer you will be responsible for designing, programming, testing, and commissioning PLC control systems used in warehouse automation solutions such as conveyors, robotic systems, and material handling equipment. You will work closely with mechanical engineers, electrical teams, project managers, and technicians to deliver reliable automation solutions for client sites. While the role is primarily office-based, travel to project sites will be required to support installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimisation of control systems.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain PLC programs for automation systems, including conveyors and warehouse automation equipment

• Work with Omron and Siemens PLC platforms to implement control logic and system functionality

• Support the commissioning and testing of automation systems during project installations

• Integrate PLC systems with warehouse control systems (WCS), warehouse management systems (WMS), and supporting databases

• Diagnose and troubleshoot automation and control system issues both remotely and on-site • Work closely with engineering and project teams to ensure successful project delivery

• Optimise system performance and reliability through effective PLC programming and system tuning

• Support upgrades, modifications, and continuous improvement of existing automation systems

• Ensure all programming work follows internal standards and documentation requirements

 

Requirements

• Significant experience as a PLC Programmer or Controls Engineer

• Strong experience with Omron and Siemens PLC platforms (both highly preferred)

• Experience developing and integrating SQL databases with automation or control systems preferred

• Ability to produce and manage electrical BOMs, drawings, and field documentation

• Experience working with industrial automation systems, ideally in material handling or warehouse automation

• Understanding of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.)

• Ability to manage multiple projects and take ownership of technical delivery

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities

• Ability to work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams

• Willingness to travel interstate when required for commissioning and system support
