The Role

As a Communications Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering end-to-end engineering activities across the project lifecycle, from design and implementation through to testing and commissioning.

This is a project-focused role where you will translate solution designs into deployable technical solutions while contributing to the ongoing development and optimisation of enterprise communications networks.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver communications engineering work packages throughout the project lifecycle, including design, build, testing and commissioning.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including Technical Design Documents (TDDs), Low-Level Designs (LLDs), implementation plans and commissioning documentation.
  • Support the integration of communications systems across IT and OT environments, ensuring secure, resilient and reliable operation.
  • Ensure all engineering designs align with approved standards, architectures, engineering frameworks and industry best practices.
  • Perform system testing, validation, troubleshooting and commissioning activities.
  • Provide technical oversight and support to vendors, contractors and delivery partners.
  • Identify, assess and escalate technical risks where appropriate.
  • Support operational readiness through documentation, knowledge transfer and transition to support teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Communications Technicians.
  • Participate in change management processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A degree in Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 2–5 years' experience in communications engineering, ideally within enterprise, industrial or operational technology environments.
  • Experience delivering communications infrastructure projects from design through to implementation and commissioning.
  • A strong understanding of engineering standards, cybersecurity principles and systems integration.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication and technical documentation skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • A current Australian Driver's Licence.

Desirable Technical Experience

Experience across several of the following technologies would be highly regarded:

  • IT/OT networking, including Layer 2/Layer 3 switching, routing and MPLS.
  • Optical fibre transmission technologies, including CWDM and DWDM.
  • Microwave radio and private mobile radio (PMR) networks.
  • VoIP telephony, collaboration platforms and voice recording systems.
  • Edge communications devices, serial data interfaces and VF circuits.
  • Communications shelters, huts and associated infrastructure.
  • Radio mast and tower infrastructure.
  • DC power systems, including battery backup and solar-powered communications systems.
