Private Sector Housing Team Leader needed in Shefford Paying  £28 per hr ref OR114518

Full time hours on a temporary basis

  • Purpose of the Role

    To lead and manage the Private Sector Housing team in delivering housing enforcement, housing assistance, and property improvement services. The postholder will ensure private sector housing standards are maintained and improved through the effective use of statutory powers, while supporting residents, landlords, and stakeholders to achieve positive housing outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Lead and manage a team of Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) and Technical Officers delivering a range of Private Sector Housing functions.
    • Oversee the regulation and enforcement of housing standards within the private rented sector, ensuring compliance with relevant housing legislation.
    • Support the delivery of housing assistance programmes and associated initiatives, contributing to housing renewal objectives, environmental sustainability, and investment in housing stock.
    • Manage and oversee complex housing enforcement cases, including substandard housing, disrepair, overcrowding, and Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs).
    • Provide expert technical guidance and support to officers on complex investigations, enforcement action, notices, schedules of works, and evidence gathering.
    • Undertake inspections and site visits where necessary to support officers and review complex cases.
    • Carry out first-stage reviews of prosecution files, tribunal submissions, civil penalty notices, and formal enforcement actions.
    • Monitor team performance, allocate workloads, and ensure service targets and statutory obligations are met.
    • Act as a key point of contact for residents, landlords, housing providers, partner agencies, and other stakeholders, providing expert advice and guidance.
    • Assist senior management in developing and improving specialist housing services, programmes, and policies.
    • Support the continuous improvement of service delivery through staff mentoring, training, and performance management.
