Pearson Carter are working with an established and highly innovative privately owned SME specialising in the design and manufacture of advanced capital equipment, supplying customers across international markets.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Software Systems Engineer to join their team. The successful individual will play a key role in developing and supporting the software and control systems that underpin both current products and new engineering projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for a software engineer with an engineering mindset who enjoys working across the full software development lifecycle and getting involved with real-world hardware and control systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and interpret software and system requirements, working collaboratively with engineering, product development and manufacturing teams.
  • Develop and enhance software applications that interface with complex engineering systems and equipment.
  • Plan and execute software testing, producing clear test documentation, procedures and technical specifications.
  • Assist with the deployment and commissioning of systems, including providing technical support during installations at customer locations internationally.
  • Diagnose software and system faults throughout the development, testing, commissioning and customer acceptance stages.
  • Maintain existing applications while delivering software updates, improvements, modifications and corrective fixes.
  • Work closely with colleagues to identify opportunities to improve system reliability, functionality and performance.
  • Deliver technical guidance and training to internal users and other members of the organisation where required.
  • Assist the Software Systems Manager with the maintenance and development of core platforms, including established and legacy applications.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years' commercial software development experience, ideally within an engineering, manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Extensive practical experience developing applications using VB.NET.
  • HND or degree-level qualification in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Understanding of, or a strong interest in, software used for machine control, motion systems and interaction between software and hardware.
  • Knowledge of industrial control technologies such as PLCs would be beneficial.
  • Previous exposure to laser control systems or similar specialist engineering technologies would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the confidence to investigate complex technical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with both technical teams and external customers.

Location

This client is based in Bridgend, South Wales and they’re looking for someone to work in office 5x per week. The role may also offer international travel to support field installations across the world!
