Job Description:
We’re working with a growing contractor that is entering the Northern Territory market and looking for a Business Development Manager to help build the business from the ground up.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being out meeting people, finding opportunities and turning relationships into ongoing work. The focus will be on civil construction, earthworks, road maintenance and wet-hire, working with contractors, councils, mining companies and infrastructure clients across the NT.
The BusinessThe business is an independent NT contractor specialising in:
Remote infrastructure projects
Road maintenance
Bulk earthworks
Wet-hire and heavy equipment
They have a large fleet of heavy machinery, experienced operators and their own mechanical and field support, allowing them to service projects in remote locations and keep equipment operating reliably.
The RoleYou’ll take ownership of developing the customer base across the Northern Territory.
A big part of the role will be getting out into the market, meeting clients and understanding upcoming projects before identifying where the business can help. You’ll build relationships with major contractors, infrastructure businesses, mining clients and regional councils and turn those relationships into new work.
You’ll also work closely with the operations team to make sure opportunities fit the available equipment, people and delivery capability.
Key ResponsibilitiesIdentify and win new business opportunities across the NT.
Build relationships with contractors, councils, mining and infrastructure clients.
Develop a pipeline of civil, earthworks, road maintenance and wet-hire opportunities.
Travel throughout the Territory for client meetings, site visits and project discussions.
Keep across upcoming projects, tenders and market activity.
Prepare quotes, proposals and commercial submissions.
Negotiate terms and secure new project work.
Maintain existing customer relationships and identify repeat business opportunities.
Work with operations to assess project requirements, equipment availability and delivery timelines.
We’re looking for someone who is comfortable hunting for new business and building relationships from scratch.
Ideally, you’ll have:
Experience in business development, sales or account management.
A background in civil construction, mining, earthmoving, plant hire or heavy equipment.
Existing relationships with contractors, councils, mining or infrastructure businesses.
Strong commercial and negotiation skills.
Confidence dealing with clients at project, operational and management level.
The ability to work independently across a large regional territory.
A willingness to travel regularly throughout the NT.
A current Australian driver’s licence.
Existing NT experience and a strong local network would be highly regarded.
Why Join? This is a chance to join a business at an early stage of its NT expansion and have a direct impact on how the customer base and revenue grow.
You’ll have plenty of autonomy, direct access to the business and the opportunity to build something rather than inherit an established sales territory.
If you’re an experienced BDM who knows the civil, mining or equipment hire market and enjoys winning new work, we’d be interested in speaking with you.
