Senior Data Engineer (dbt & GCP) Data & AI Australia

Pearson Carter are currently working with a leading Australian banking organisation undergoing a major technology and data transformation. Their Data & AI Engineering team is building modern, secure, and scalable enterprise data products across Google Cloud.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to hire a Senior Data Engineer to act as a technical anchor across their GCP Lakehouse, driving modern analytics engineering standards using dbt and BigQuery.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity focused on building high-performance data products, automation, governance, and technical capability across engineering squads.

They offer a flexible hybrid working model across Adelaide, Bendigo, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney, with strong opportunities for technical leadership and development.

Responsibilities:
Lead technical design and best practices across dbt projects
Build scalable GCP data pipelines using BigQuery and GCS
Develop reusable dbt macros, packages, and modular SQL/Python models
Drive automated testing and Git-based CI/CD pipelines
Optimise BigQuery performance, scalability, and cost
Implement security controls for sensitive banking data
Mentor engineers and lead technical reviews

Experience:
Advanced production experience with dbt Core/Cloud
Strong GCP and BigQuery engineering experience
Advanced SQL and Python skills
Strong Data Vault 2.0 and dimensional modelling experience
Experience with CI/CD, Git, and infrastructure-as-code principles
Understanding of BigQuery security, data governance, and PII/KYC controls
Strong technical leadership and mentoring capability
