Senior Platform / DevOps Engineer

Auckland North Shore 3-Month Contract Up to 100/hr GST

We’re supporting an established Auckland software company that is looking for a Senior Platform / DevOps Engineer with genuine hands-on software development experience.

This is not a pure configuration, automation or pipeline role. The focus is building a new standalone deployment tool for a Windows Server environment. The tool will take an instruction file from an existing internal system and execute deployments across several hosting servers, including distributing application files and running SQL Server database scripts.

The work needs someone who can write clean, reliable software, test properly, and understand the impact of failed deployments in customer-facing environments.

The Role

You will design, build and test a deployment tool that supports application releases across a small Windows Server estate. You’ll work closely with the internal team to understand the existing system, deployment requirements and failure points, then build a structured tool that can reliably manage deployment instructions, file distribution and database script execution.

This role suits someone who has worked across both software development and platform engineering, especially in on-premise Windows environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build a standalone deployment tool for a Windows Server environment.
• Write application or middleware logic using C#/.NET, Java or Python.
• Execute deployment instructions from an existing internal system.
• Support file distribution and SQL Server script execution across hosting servers.
• Build reliable testing around deployment logic and failure scenarios.
• Work with on-premise infrastructure, with no cloud involved.
• Support release reliability across multiple customer environments.

Experience Required

• 8 years’ total IT experience.
• 5 years’ experience across DevOps, platform engineering or similar environments.
• Strong hands-on software development experience.
• Strong capability in C#/.NET, Java or Python.
• Solid Windows Server experience in production environments.
• SQL Server experience, including scripted schema and data updates.
• Comfortable working with self-managed on-premise infrastructure.
• Strong testing discipline.
• Right to work in New Zealand.

Nice To Have

• Middleware or integration development experience.
• Experience releasing software to multiple customer environments.
• Exposure to deployment or release tooling such as Octopus Deploy, Ansible or DSC.
• Experience in software companies or customer-hosted product environments.

Contract Details

• Location: Auckland North Shore
• Working arrangement: Predominantly onsite
• Contract length: 3 months initially
• Extension: Reasonable prospect of extension
• Start date: ASAP
• Rate: Up to 100/hr GST
