Pearson Carter is recruiting for a critical public sector data project in Wellington. This role will suit a hands-on Senior Data Engineer or Engineering Lead with strong Microsoft Fabric experience who can help turn an existing platform into reliable, governed, production-ready data products.

You’ll work across Microsoft Fabric, OneLake, Lakehouses, Data Warehouses, Dataflows Gen2, Pipelines and PySpark notebooks, helping establish the engineering patterns that will support future delivery.

You will be responsible for building 1–2 production-ready data products, taking ownership from ingestion through to business-ready datasets. You’ll apply Bronze, Silver and Gold Medallion Architecture patterns, support platform readiness reviews, and help define practical engineering standards for the wider data environment.

You’ll also work closely with the Data Architect and Metadata Lead to support lineage, security and governance through Microsoft Purview.

• Build production-ready data products across ingestion, transformation and curated datasets.

• Develop ETL/ELT pipelines using Microsoft Fabric, Dataflows Gen2, Fabric Pipelines and PySpark notebooks.

• Apply Medallion Architecture patterns across OneLake, Lakehouses and Data Warehouses.

• Design and implement Delta Lake data models and ingestion patterns.

• Support governance, lineage and security implementation through Microsoft Purview.

• Review platform readiness and help shape future engineering standards.

• Work within a complex enterprise/public sector data environment.

• Strong hands-on experience delivering solutions in Microsoft Fabric.

• Strong PySpark, T-SQL and Python experience.

• Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and designing ingestion patterns.

• Good understanding of OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Warehouse and Delta Lake concepts.

• Ability to work with Data Architects, Metadata Leads and broader project stakeholders.

• Experience applying Bronze, Silver and Gold Medallion Architecture patterns.

Experience with Microsoft Purview, Matillion, dimensional modelling or public sector data projects would be highly regarded.

An immediate part-time start, progressing to full-time work, is preferred.
