Pearson Carter are working with a well-established organisation involved in the design and manufacture of advanced capital equipment for customers across a range of international markets. As part of their continued growth and investment in engineering capability, they are seeking an experienced Software Systems Engineer to join their team.
The successful candidate will be involved in the development and support of software solutions that underpin sophisticated machinery and control systems. Working across new product development as well as established equipment, you will contribute to the full software lifecycle, from understanding technical requirements and defining system behaviour through to development, testing, commissioning and ongoing improvement.
You will collaborate closely with software, engineering, production and project teams, helping to deliver reliable and effective software solutions that satisfy both technical specifications and customer requirements. The role also provides the opportunity to work with a range of machine-control, automation and motion-related technologies.

Responsibilities- Analyse technical, product and customer requirements and establish the software functionality needed to support engineering projects.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, production and product development teams to develop software solutions that meet operational and technical objectives.
- Define and document software architecture, system functionality, interfaces and expected system behaviour.
- Develop, modify and support software applications and machine-control solutions using appropriate programming languages and development technologies.
- Produce and maintain relevant technical documentation, including software designs, system descriptions, test documentation and operating procedures.
- Plan and undertake software testing, verification and validation to demonstrate that developed solutions meet defined requirements.
- Contribute to technical discussions, software design reviews and decisions relating to system architecture and development approaches.
- Communicate with customers, end users, suppliers, contractors and subcontractors to gather information, investigate issues and agree appropriate technical solutions.
- Support the deployment, installation, integration and commissioning of software and control systems, including occasional travel to customer sites internationally.
- Investigate software and system problems throughout development, testing, commissioning and the operational life of products.
- Develop and implement corrections, enhancements and software updates in response to technical issues, product changes and customer requirements.
- Support the transfer of technical knowledge within the wider engineering team and assist with training where required.
- Maintain awareness of emerging developments in software development, automation, control and related engineering technologies.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of existing software platforms and legacy control solutions, particularly applications developed using VB.NET.
- Provide technical support and guidance to the Software Systems Manager across key software platforms and associated products.
- HND, Degree or equivalent higher-level qualification in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years' commercial experience working within a professional software development environment.
- Proven practical experience developing software applications using VB.NET, ideally within an engineering, manufacturing, automation or comparable technical environment.
- Experience developing software that interfaces with, monitors or controls physical hardware, machinery or engineering equipment.
- Knowledge of, or a strong interest in, industrial automation, machine control and motion-control systems.
- Ability to understand software requirements and convert them into clear technical specifications and development documentation.
- Hands-on experience with software testing, debugging, troubleshooting and validation processes.
- Good understanding of how software interacts with hardware and other components within complex technical systems.
- Familiarity with PLC-controlled systems would be beneficial.
- Previous experience working with laser control systems or related technology would be advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a structured approach to investigating complex technical issues.
- Able to troubleshoot methodically, identify underlying causes and develop practical, reliable solutions.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical teams, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
Salary is dependent on experience and is competitive on the market.
LocationThis role is based in Bridgend, South Wales where you will work onsite from their office
